Waiting for eternity

Waiting outside the theatre seemed to be an eternity would I have a baby would I have a wife? What about Amy? What would I do if I lost them both?

The doors open.

You could hear noises, voices and bleeps then all of a sudden four people with a plastic box came out of the door.

At 3.02 PM on the 9th of July we had a baby girl who we called Kirsty.

She had tried to breathe on her own but had needed Cardiac Massage.

Kirsty weighed in at 1Lb 8 Ounces. More than what they thought. This was a bonus.

The waiting game continued as I waited to be able to see Lisa and then see Kirsty.

What I saw in the special baby unit is a bit shocking. Some of the pictures on the next page may upset some people seeing tubes and wires everywhere. But it will help prepare you if you are going through what we were. If you are a Grandad or Grandma please visit. The parents of premature babies need you support. And don't forget, the premi baby is missing out as well. But he or she can hear your voice. You may not be able to touch the baby, but they will know you are there.

Some things do not look very nice but they are there and are done for good reasons. The next few pages will give you an in site into the "premi world".

Oh and them monitors they go off if the babies move! So don't worry too much about all those bleeps. Ask the staff any questions you may have, even if its "what's that?"

We found the staff to be very dedicated friendly and helpful a team dedicated to the world of special baby care.
