AT home on Oxygen.

After 80 days in the Special care unit Kirsty is home. This is literally as she was when we first walked through the door!

Discharge facts.

Time in special care 80Days (@ 2 1/2 months)

Weight 2.251 Kg (@ 5lb 11 Ounces)

Length 36 CM

Head Circumference 33.5 Cm

Amy gives Kirsty a feed at home. She had wanted to do this in the Hospital but things weren't quite right for this. You may just be able to see the tape that holds the prongs. It has taken us ages to get used to these and to remember that the pipe has its limit in length!

Kirsty was doing quite well with her bottles but again being so small wind was the problem.

Chronic Lung Disease?

This does NOT stop her crying! In fact she has one the loudest cries I have heard for a long time!

One night it was my turn to sleep and I put her to sleep i could hear her through TWO doors and having PROTECTORS in my ears!

Oh another late sleepless night.

How we cope with the Oxygen and Special Cares.

As any parent knows coping with a baby can be demanding in normal circumstances let alone home on Oxygen.

If I am working Lisa will go to bed about 7 at night and then I take over until the early hours. This means I get some sleep before work and Lisa gets some rest. I would not say this would suit every Dad, as it would not. But seeing what Lisa and Kirsty has been through I hope that I have given them much needed help. The Oxygen has to be kept an eye on and if she needs extra when feeding, bathing and going out it has to be turned up a little. You soon get used to this and if she seems a bit slow. Kirsty at the time of doing this page has been home for about 7 weeks.
